Welcome Fuller, Symonds, Wheelock and Daniels parents! Please don't be alarmed that you are on Franklin's website. All of the kindergarten registration information below is the same for all five elementary schools.
KEENE SCHOOL DISTRICT
KEENE, NEW HAMPSHIRE
Dear Parents/Guardians:
We welcome you and your child to his/her first public school experience!
It is time to register for kindergarten for the 2010 - 2011 school year.
What do I need to do to register?
Please fill out the following forms (click here to download forms)
- Student Enrollment Form*
- Home Language Form
- School Nurse Record
* Mixed Race Ethnicity Code List may be needed (click here)
Also needed to register
- Copy of Birth Certificate (we can copy at registration time if you wish)
- Proof of residency (can be a copy of a tax bill, utility bill or lease)
- Immunization Record
You may bring the above to any Keene elementary school on Friday, April 2nd between the hours of 8:00 am and 3:30 pm.
Who is eligible to attend?
To enter kindergarten a child must show evidence of having reached the age of five years on or before September 30, 2010, and are residents of Keene. Your child is eligible but it is not mandatory that he/she attend this year. If you believe that your child is not ready, please discuss this with the staff at the time of registration.
What should I do if I want my child to attend a different school?
At the time of registration ask for a Request for Variance Form. Variances to attend other elementary schools are usually granted if there is space available and transportation can be arranged at no additional cost to the school district. The variance form should be included with the other registration material.
What should I do if I don’t have all the forms completed?
It is very important to register and reserve a place for your child in April. We understand it may take some time to get all of the documents.
What should I do if I am moving or thinking about sending my child to private school?
If there is any possibility your child will attend public kindergarten in Keene we ask that you register. A simple phone call to the school can stop the process at anytime but registration is very important to our planning and insures a smooth transition for your child.
What if I can’t register on April 2nd?
Please mail the registration material, or drop them off at any Keene elementary school office, Monday through Friday between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm.
Is there anything else I need to do?
State law requires a physical exam prior to entry in school in September. A form for this purpose is also enclosed (click here to download form). Please note that the following immunizations are also necessary:
- Five Diphtheria, Pertussis & Tetanus (DTP/DT/DTaP)
- Four Polio Vaccine
- Two Measles Vaccine (after 12 months of age)
- One Rubella Vaccine (German Measles)
- One Mumps Vaccine
- Three Hepatitis B Vaccine
- Two Varicella (Chicken Pox) Vaccine
Please note: if your child has not received the required Varicella vaccines, and has had Chicken Pox disease, a blood test confirming immunity will be required before entry into school.
Does my child need to come to registration?
Registration merely starts the process, children need not come.
What happens next?
As soon as we have established enrollments and staffing at each school we will send you a letter inviting you to bring your child into school for a brief “open house” (usually mid to late May) then there will be a much more detailed orientation program just prior to the opening of school. If you need any help or have any questions, please feel free to give us a call. We look forward to meeting you and your child, and to providing a quality educational experience.
Sincerely yours,
